Art Piece raising money for R’s pledge

Assalamu alaikum All,

As you will remember in my last post thanking everyone for their donations towards R’s pledge of £500 for a hospital in Gaza, a sister’s husband has donated one of his paintings to raise money towards R’s pledge.

Here is the painting and some details about its worth and more about the artist.

The way it will work insha’Allah is that if anyone would like to put forward an amount towards the picture, they need to email me at The highest bidder will be announced on Sunday 1st July 2012. I will periodically let everyone know what the highest bid is throughout the week insha’Allah so that if you wish to bid again, you can do so. Please do bid generously – it is a beautiful painting but the cause is even more beautiful in terms of good deeds.

Here is the painting and further details:

The painting’s name is ‘Here I am at Your Service, O my Lord’. The print is limited edition – this means that there will only be 200 printed and this means that it has the potential to gain value over time inshaAllah. Each print is high quality giclee prints that are collectables. It will come with a certificate of originality (stating that it is an authentic limited edition print of the original painting). Also the print comes mounted.

The artist has a facebook page where you can see more of his work:

All copyrights belong to the above named artist.

Look forward to receiving your bids insha’Allah!

  1. walikum salam it is a nice picture masha allah only problem is that you cant hang pictures on the wall of people or animals so who ever buys it wont be able to put it up

    • I don’t have a lot of knowledge sister so prefer to refrain from saying something is haram or not especially if there are a variety of opinions on a matter. What I do know is that as no faces are shown and we only see the silhouettes there are opinions that allow this otherwise I wouldn’t have put it on my blog. I wouldn’t want others to incur sin if I thought it was haram. And so, I believe it is better to respect others’ opinions and let them decide. Anyone who thinks it is not permissible to put it up doesn’t have to bid insha’Allah. 🙂

      • Further information about this issue:

There are several hadith regarding the punishment on the Day of Resurrection for the image maker who makes images of animate beings. However, scholars have defined what constitutes an image and they have stated that images which do not have complete features, which do not have a nose or eyes, are not included under the heading of haraam images, and the ones who make them are not included in this warning, because they cannot truly be said to be images, and therefore, these images do not imply imitating the creation of Allaah (SubhanAllahu wa ta’ala).

In the words of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) : ‘With regards to dolls made of cloth, where the image does not have clear features, even though it has limbs, a head and neck, but there are no eyes or nose, there is nothing wrong with that, because this is not imitating the creation of Allaah……If the image is not clear and if it does not have eyes or a nose or mouth or fingers, then it is not a complete image, and is not imitating the creation of Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted.’
